darting equipment
DanInject
The combination of Paul’s veterinary activities specialising in deer along with his own deer farms resulted in a need to find the best technique for administering anaesthesia. Gaining experience with various systems, he was confronted with unreliable equipment on the market until he got acquainted with DanInject, Jørgen Jørgensen and Britta Mikkelsen’s Børkop firm, producers of dart guns. The exceptionally professional quality of DanInject products made him decide to accept their request to distribute their dart guns for Benelux, France and Spain. Naturally, his specialist veterinary knowledge has proved an asset to customers.
Interestingly, DanInject has invariably been the brand used for immobilising animals in documentaries about African wildlife.

General
Dan-Inject is the Danish manufacturer of premium quality systems for distant injection of animals. There are various other manufacturers of such instruments, yet everyone working in this line is convinced of the superiority of Dan-Inject. This manufacturer is a perfectionist who takes satisfaction only from the very best, which naturally results in top quality.
Being a vet and deer breeder, sedation of deer both at our own farm and with customers has become an almost daily activity.
From the combination of the above competencies a fruitful cooperation has developed over many years. This is how we became sole distributor of Dan-Inject systems for Benelux and France. We also distribute their equipment in Spain.
Below you will find the range of Dan-Inject:
- Blowpipes: one of 1m25 length (type Röken, code BLOW 1,25) and one of 1m80 (type Zoo, code BLOW 1,80). The first is more manoeuvrable; the second is more precise at a longer range. After some practice, blowpipes are efficient within a 10 metres’ range. A major advantage of blowpipes is that their light arrows hardly traumatise. Even larger birds or rodents, skunks and smaller felines…can be anaesthetised.
- Pistol (code PICO2): a sturdy instrument consisting of a brass barrel of 11 to 13mm and a technically sober gas-pressure trigger mechanism. As there is no sight on this pistol, it can only be used accurately within a 15 meters’ range. Therefore it is used with animals that can be approached at this distance.
- The rifles can be subdivided into:
- Type IM: a rifle with wooden stock and classy appearance. It aims as accurately as the JM.Sp (see below) but looks more refined with its walnut stock.
- Type JM: a rifle with a green aluminium stock, consisting of a basic version(JM.St) and a more accurate version (JM.Sp) with lands at its muzzle.
- The JM models differ in length and in muzzles with or without lands. Accuracy at a longer range is enhanced with both a longer barrel and the presence of lands.
- There is also a JM rifle that allows a pressure of 25 bars, with a view to aiming farther, yet within a 75 metres’ range.
- A double-barrel gun has been designed and manufactured. One and the same gun can be equipped with an 11mm and a 13mm barrel.
- Dan-inject’s jabstick: an instrument with a 10ml nylon jab at its front to inject animals within a 2 metres’ range.
- Jabs and needles, specifically produced for Dan-Inject’s blowpipes, pistols and rifles. They are far superior in quality to any other jabs and needles that the market has on offer elsewhere.
- Apart from its tele-injection systems and materials Dan-Inject distributes related articles, e.g. the transportation rug (code RUG) for safe transportation of anaesthetised animals.
Model IM with wooden stock.
Basic model JM.St with accuracy range of 30m.
Model JM.Sp with short barrel (precise to up to 20m) and rifled barrel extension, which allows accuracy range within 50-60

How to prepare the DanInject darts:
With a view to safety the instructions below must be strictly followed. It is firmly advised to practise the filling process with water repeatedly with a view to gaining adequate mastery of the technique.
Remove the hypodermic needle from the protective case. Slide the green/red silicone sleeve (code: SLEEG or SLEER) onto the needle so that the injection holes are covered and located at the centre under the sleeve. This can be achieved by rotating the needle whilst exerting pressure on the sleeve. The green/red silicone sleeve can only be used once. |
|
Hold the dart with the air chamber uppermost. Using an air filler syringe fitted with a DAN-INJECT coupling adapter (code: COU) connected to the drug chamber, position the black plunger at the rear of the drug chamber, which is about in the center of the dart. |
|
Reverse the dart so that the drug chamber is now upwards. Using a suitable syringe and fine needle filled with the required tranquilising/medicating liquid slowly inject the drug into the drug chamber. Ensure using a sufficiently small gauge needle to allow air from the drug chamber to be expelled without displacing the drug. Never pass any liquid through the other side of the dart marked with a red band. |
|
Set the hypodermic needle onto the dart syringe on the side of the drug chamber, using pliers and locate it firmly by rotating it slightly whilst applying pressure. |
|
Apply a safety cap (code: PRO3R or PRO5R) over the needle and fix it firmly onto the dart. |
|
Pressurising the dart: hold the dart vertically with the needle/protection cap upwards. Fix the DAN-INJECT coupling adapter (code: COU) onto a dry standard 12 - 20 ml syringe. Introduce 12 ml of air into the syringe (correct air pressure for a 3 ml dart). Connect the syringe securely to the air chamber of the dart and, with a smooth continuous action inject now the 12 ml of air which enters the dart air chamber. |
|
Now 12 ml of air is let in to the syringe through the coupling (code: COU). The red plunger will act as a one-way valve and retain the air within the dart. WARNING: THE DART IS NOW PRESSURISED AND EXTREME CAUTION MUST BE TAKEN AT ALL TIMES. SAFETY CRITERIA MUST BE RESPECTED. If the operator needs to prepare several darts simultaneaously, all darts should permanently be covered by a safety cap (PRO3R or PRO5R) until being positioned in the barrel. |
